Dear Friend,

New Year. New projects. We’re all excited to be back performing in theaters! We finally get to resume our longstanding collaboration with Classics 4 Kids at the Balboa Theater, to introduce groups of young school children to orchestral music and dance. We’ve created a ‘story dance’ to the famous children’s book, Ferdinand the Bull. It will be great fun for them, and us!

This spring, we are featuring new choreographic works by two amazing Guest Choreographers (plus a new work by me) at the Joan B Kroc Theatre April 15 & 16. Christopher K Morgan (who started his performing career with Malashock Dance many years ago) and Tristian Griffin (who you will remember as my co-creator of The Bridge in 2021) are both remarkably talented choreographers and leaders in the dance field. Their residencies here will be as candidates for the Artistic Director position at Malashock Dance, as I begin to shift my role within the organization. I couldn’t be more excited about having them here.

I am also thrilled that the Malashock Dance School is growing and expanding its programs to include an expansive summer intensive program and we are resuming our outreach programs in schools all over the city. Dance is for everyone!

Happy New Year, All! I think it is going to be a good one.

John Malashock, Artistic Director

We are SO close to meeting our end-of-year fundraising goal of $30,000! We have until the end of the month to get there, and your contribution will make a big difference!

YEAR END FUNDRAISING UPDATE

We’re almost there! Over $27,000 has been raised towards our $30,000 year end fundraising goal. We invite you to make a donation today. Your gift will help expand programs that ignite passion, make meaningful connections, and foster a sense of belonging.

MATCHING GIFT CAMPAIGN SUCCESS

Donations (up to $3,000) made by students and alumni of the Malashock Dance School during our student sharecase week in December were doubled! Our goal was surpassed, and over $3,900 was raised to support our outreach and school programs. Many thanks to our anonymous matching donor, and to our community for your support. We couldn’t do it without you!

KICKING OFF 2023

WITH MALASHOCK DANCE OUTREACH!

We are so grateful for the continuous opportunities to impact students in our community through our Outreach Programs.

Our Teaching Artists work along side the classroom teacher, creating custom lesson plans focused on objectives students are learning in the classroom.

We teach to enhance the emotional, physical, and artistic development of students, while maintaining a inclusive atmosphere of all students regardless of  age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, and/or ability.

Our goal is to empower children through creativity and movement while maintaining a safe space for student to freely express who they are, through their own interpretation of movement.
