Dear Friend,

June is a busy time at Malashock Dance! Our school was alive and buzzing at our Youth Showcase - Light Up. The Company is deep into rehearsals for our upcoming concert Tandem Intuition. The staff and board are working diligently planning for incredible programming across all facets of our organization for next season. Thank goodness the longer days of summer are upon us so that we can get all of these things done.

June is also an important time of celebration and reflection. As communities around our country, celebrate LGBTQIA2S Pride and observe Juneteenth, I’m thoughtful about the Civil Rights movements that contribute to all of the privileges I enjoy and reasons I have to celebrate. I hope each of you are able to find reasons to reflect and celebrate this month, including opportunities to connect with Malashock Dance. I look forward to seeing you at some of the upcoming events detailed below.

Yours in Dance,

Christopher K. Mogan

Artistic Director

June (re)Connect Class-

Wednesdays in June, you can join Malashock Dance Company Dancer and EDDIII Choreographer Jessica Rabanzo Flores in the studio for Contemporary Modern.

Jessica’s class is a culmination of her studies in classical modern and contemporary techniques. Her work as a functional movement trainer is infused in her teaching, prioritizing safety, proper form and alignment. She explores movement that can be physically vigorous, but also supple and fluid. Musicality and rhythm are vital elements and Jessica loves creating an energizing and motivating vibe through her playlists. Class will begin with a thorough full-body warmup moving in and out of the floor, progress to standing sequences, and will build to an expansive phrase. Jessica creates an inclusive environment where we can harvest individual expression and joyful movement.

About the (re)CONNECT Rotating Class Series:

Reconnect with your practice and artists in our San Diego dance community through a rotating monthly series of drop-in technique classes featuring current and former MD company members, choreographers, and faculty. With a drop-in schedule every Wednesday night, this series fosters meaningful ways to get to know an artist deeply over the course of a month, while providing a wide array of artists for intermediate to advanced students to study with.

Thank you to the Zable Foundation

Malashock Dance is grateful for support from the Walter J. and Betty C. Zable Foundation.

Support from individuals, foundations, and government entities helps us to fulfill our mission, to illuminate the power of dance as an invaluable part of the human experience.

We believe dance belongs to everyone. With support from our community, we remove financial barriers that prevent access to arts education and the joy and human connection dance brings.

Join our community of supporters this June and your donation will be matched (up to $2000).
