Dear Friends, New Year's Day is not a holiday I usually pay much attention to. For the natural world, it is just another day, and the calendar doesn't mean much. But I, like so many of you, can't help feeling a sense of importance about being able to watch 2020 fade in the rearview mirror. Obviously, 2021 will remain very unpredictable, with both health and social issues, but I am encouraged by this particular turning of the calendar page, and the knowledge that personal expression through dance will continue to drive Malashock Dance to fulfill its artistic and educational mission. Personally, I look forward to tackling some exciting new projects this year and introducing some amazing dance artists to our community. And, in the spirit of unity and collaboration, I'm thrilled to be working with the other resident dance companies at Liberty Station (San Diego Ballet and San Diego Dance Theater) to develop an outdoor, Covid-safe performance venue for live shows in the late spring/early summer. Even at a safe distance, it will be wonderful to be in the same space with you. Love, John Malashock, Artistic Director
Dear Friend, As we turn the page to a new year, I want to express gratitude for all who have worked tirelessly to help Malashock Dance during the unprecedented challenges we faced in 2020. As we enter a new year, I remember that there is also opportunity for growth, healing, and change. We look forward to opening our hearts and minds to embrace new ways of sharing dance with you. With an incredible group of artists and educators on staff, new artistic partners, and a deeper sense of collaboration with our dance community, I am hopeful that we will see our vibrant arts community flourish. Stay happy and healthy! Molly Glynn Puryear, Executive Director
