Special invitation! Join us in the studio on Saturday, October 19, 2024 as we prepare “The Dulling Effect” for our upcoming concert, CULTIVATE.
Observe rehearsal with choreographer Christopher K. Morgan and the Malashock Dance Company Dancers. Stay for conversations, coffee, and cookies to provide input and learn more about the creative process.
Inspired by a 1934 Harvard study on how radio has a dulling effect on the higher mental processes of the listener, Christopher’s curiosity on how that dulling effect may have increased over the last 90 years of technology, and his concern that current political and legislative initiatives in the US are attempting to homogenize citizens, rather than celebrating their unique individual beauty.
SUGGESTED DONATION: $10 - $50 per person
1:30 PM PDT - 2:30 PM PDT
Christopher K. Morgan, Artistic Director, is a choreographer, performer, educator, facilitator, curator, and arts administrator whose Native Hawaiian ancestry and wide-ranging international performance career influence all aspects of his work. His vision for Malashock Dance balances the growth of the performing company with access to dance education for all, a commitment to supporting new work by San Diego choreographers and the legacy of Founding Artistic Director, as well as his own work. His choreography synthesizes dance, storytelling, original music, and multimedia design to explore identity, social, and cultural issues.
Malashock Dance returns to the stage! CULTIVATE will deepen relationships with San Diego audiences and choreographers through new commissions and remounted works by Artistic Director Christopher K. Morgan, Founding Director John Malashock, and Everyday Dances / SEED commissioned choreographers Gina Bolles Sorensen & Kyle Sorensen, Khamla Somphanh, and Viviana Alcazar.
The mission of Malashock Dance is to illuminate the power of dance as an invaluable part of the human experience. It is a gathering place for artists to create new work, connect with audiences, and offer unique educational opportunities.
