Dear Friends,

Mingei loosely translates as “Art from everyday objects.” It’s fitting that our EVERYDAY DANCES show will premiere at the beautifully renovated Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park, followed two weeks later by shows at our Liberty Station studio theater.

It is also in keeping with our new evolution to a dance company that highlights the work of a variety of dance artists. EVERYDAY DANCES feature new, commissioned choreography by Blythe Barton, Ryan Beck, Lauren Christie, Marcos Duran, Odessa Uno, and yours truly. I’m proud to share my work alongside these fascinating dance makers from our community.

While these dances will be anything but commonplace, they will form a fast-moving show with depth and great range. From this show, you will get a taste of what is happening in our unique dance scene.

I also like calling it EVERYDAY DANCES, because dance is what we do…everyday!

Yours,

John Malashock, Artistic Director

Dear Friend,

This month has been an opportunity for Malashock Dance to reignite our passion for producing live performances. All of the planning, meeting, and logistics around a dance production fills the air with a sense of possibility and optimism. As we embark on the first performance of our 33rd Season, we are embracing the evolution of the organization and enjoying the process of getting to know new choreographers, dancers, and even a new venue to showcase this incredible artform. The world and our field are moving in new directions and we hope that you feel compelled to engage with us this year as we bring forth fresh perspectives and new ways to create access to dance. Everyday Dances will be premier in November, and tickets are on sale!

Molly Glynn Puryear, Executive Director

EVERYDAY DANCES will be a one-hour show comprised of short dances in small groupings (solos, duets, trios, quartets), created by numerous San Diego choreographers. Five of the works will be new, commissioned choreography by guest artists, and five will be new and existing works by John Malashock. EVERYDAY DANCES will premiere at Mingei Museum's new performance space in Balboa Park (Nov 5-7) and at Liberty Station (Nov 19-21).

Tickets are $15 - $35*
