Dear Friend,

When I first started dancing at the age of 5 I had no idea where my dance journey would take me. My only determination was to accomplish my splits (on both sides of course). I never would have imagined where that 5 year old would be today.

Throughout my dance journey I’ve faced several obstacles along the process, some within my body and others within my mind and spirit however, I knew there was something bigger to find in my relationship with dance.

I moved up and down California and even to the East Coast searching for a wing to be under - the person or opportunity to swoop down and guide me to a clearer end goal. I've continued to search, and as most of us know, your growth and journey within dance has NO expiration date regardless of age or ability.

Being back in San Diego, my hometown is the next step in my journey. With the opportunity to represent Malashock Dance as their Outreach Coordinator, I can encourage, guide, and uplift San Diego youth as a means to give back to the community that gave me the strength to grow and spread my wings.

Needless to say, I encourage everyone to embrace their process. When the high winds of life get hard to navigate, spread your wings and fly high. It will all make sense in the end.

Warmly,

Nicole Diaz-Pellot

KICKING OFF THE SEASON WITH WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY!

We are excited to be in the midst of our first residency of the school year!

One of our newest teaching artist's, Lucia Padilla, is working with Kindergarteners at Washington Elementary through the Liberty School Program.

Their focus is to explore dance and creative movement for the next 6 weeks and will have the opportunity to visit our Malashock Dance school to perform what they've learned!

A special thank you to the NTC Foundation for their continuous support in making dance accessible to our San Diego youth community!

The Malashock Dance Junior Company is designed to prepare dancers for opportunities in dance beyond the four walls of the studio. From technique training to rehearsal to performances Junior Company is designed to expose participants to facets of dance beyond technique classes that will assist dancers in pursuing dance both as a career, and a passion.
We aim to inspire, motivate, challenge and enrich the lives of our dancers through fostering a commitment to training and offering performance opportunities to help students hone their craft.

The 2022-2023 Junior Company has begun rehearsals and will have their first performance of the season December 10, 2022 at 4pm during the Kimball Holiday Festival in National City. We'd love to see you there!

Malashock Dance is grateful for support from our community.

Our Liberty Station studios and office are being upgraded thanks to support from Dorothea Laub and San Diego County Board of Supervisor, District 3, Terra Lawson-Remer. The studio theatre experience was enjoyed by patrons, dancers, and students during our sold-out weekend of EVERYDAY DANCES II.

Thank you for making San Diego the best place for dance!
