Dear Friend,

The start of the year might be one of my favorite times. The chaos of the holidays dissipates, and we get to watch the connections that dance cultivates take center stage. I particularly love the energy as we return from the holiday break. I am so blessed that it's part of my job to sit in the hallway and watch young dancers squeal and run to hug teachers they missed or see adult dancers light up when their friends step into the studio. Like so many New Year’s resolutions, there’s just so much to look forward to. It feels like standing at the top of a big hill, ready to race to the bottom, and seizing a moment to take in the wonderful view of what awaits you before rushing head long into a grand adventure.

I can’t wait to launch into this new year and discover all the new connections waiting to be built among the twists and turns of 2025.

HELP US TAKE THE COMPANY TO WASHINGTON D.C.!

Artistic Director Christopher K organ secured a residency for the further development of The Dulling Effect at Dance Place in Washington DC to take place in June 2025. This residency comes with a $10,000 fee that will PARTIALLY pay dancer salaries and travel costs.

Our goal is to raise an additional $10,000 to cover costs.

(re)Connect with Araceli Carrera

Join EDD Choreographer and Faculty Member Araceli Carrera for Danza Moderna

Danza Moderna will focus on: breath, alignment, lengthening body, fluidity, release, and expressive movement.

The rhythm that ignites the all levels danza class with Araceli explores movement that celebrates and invites the presence of energy versus effort. Listening to our bodies as we navigate class is key and making accommodations is encouraged. All levels means that the movement will have a variety of interpretations (choice making); alternating from standing or floor-work, locomotor or non locomotor, tempo/levels/space will be shared diversely so that all dancers can feel at ease yet challenged in a way that activates their connection and artistry to the movement.

Class will begin with: imagery/warm up, followed by stretch/strength, and close with movement phrase.

"Pleasurehood is a dance directed and performed by Eric Geiger with collaborators and performers Jordan Daley and Nick McGhee and sound design by Otari Cloud. I have been asking myself- how does the “what” and the “how” of the dance and the dancing create space for otherness, something we might not understand right away. What if Pleasurehood's choreography holds the question- how can we create the conditions in order to sense more, feel more, drop into pleasure more? Through practices of care we've been engaged in radical tenderness, radical intimacy, and radical sensuousness. Pleasurehood is of the four of us."
