Dear Friend,

During this time of year, I am in a constant state of gratitude. Your generosity at this critical time has been uplifting and I want you to know that all of us at Malashock Dance are so grateful for each of you. You hear from me a lot, so this month, I'd like to lift up a few voices in our community by sharing what they have to say about Malashock Dance!

Molly Puryear, Executive Director

“Malashock Dance is a friendly, multi-cultural, multi-generational, dance environment where everyone feels part of the community. The studio is huge, airy, and gorgeous with amazing views, so it’s a very inspiring atmosphere.”

“You took me on a tour of the human spirit and emotion. What I learned from the dancers is how much of the human experience you can share with someone without screaming it in their face.”

SAVE THE DATE! SEED: APRIL 3-6, 2025

SEED (formerly EveryDay Dances) invests in the San Diego creative economy by commissioning new short form works from local choreographers to be staged on Malashock Dance’s professional company of dancers and presented in a mixed bill performance in the Malashock Black Box Studio Theater and partner venues throughout the region. In a small arts ecosystem with few paid opportunities for choreographers to create new work, SEED plays a critical role in supporting San Diego dancers and dancemakers while expanding our audience reach by commissioning choreographers that represent the diversity in age, ethnicity, socio-economic background, and cultures of San Diego.

MALASHOCK DANCE AT THE SAN DIEGO AIRPORT

San Diego International Airport’s (SAN) Performing Arts Program provides a unique platform to celebrate San Diego’s culture and diverse talent in dance, theater, and live music, through an ongoing concert series, special performances, and residencies. During Malashock Dance's residency, oral history interviews gathered from diverse communities and individuals in San Diego will form the soundtrack for the dance performances, which include solo, duet, and group choreography that is responsive and representative of the narrative. This work is embodied by Malashock Dance Company members under the direction of Christopher K.

GERMINATE: Space Grants for Artists

GERMINATE invests in the San Diego creative economy by offering space grants to local choreographers.  GERMINATE provides rehearsal space and a supportive environment for artists to deeply engage with their work and creative process. The development of this space grant program is in direct response to the need for uninterrupted time and space to experiment and innovate that has been articulated by our peers in multiple Town Hall gatherings Malashock Dance has held over the past few years.

GERMINATE is part of our mission to foster a hub where artists come together to create new work.
