Dear Friend,

As we step into a new production, CULTIVATE, which is filled with creativity and inspiration, I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound impact that live performing arts have on our lives. Whether it’s the thrill of a captivating theater space, the energy of the dance artists on stage, or the intimacy of a choreographic work that you connect with, these experiences affect us in ways that are truly unique.

Live performances are more than just entertainment; they are a celebration of human expression. They bring stories to life, evoke emotions, and create a shared sense of community among audiences. In a world that often feels disconnected, the arts remind us of our shared humanity and the power of storytelling.

This newsletter will highlight not only upcoming events but also the incredible artists and organizations that make our local arts scene vibrant. These programs and performances enrich our lives, foster creativity, and provide an escape into new worlds.

I invite you to dive in, discover what’s happening in our community, and find opportunities to experience the magic of Malashock Dance. Together, let’s celebrate the joy and connection that comes from witnessing art in action.

(Re)Connect Classes this month with Erica Buechner

Join SEED choreographer and former Malashock Dance Faculty member, Erica Buechner

This class is designed to facilitate an in-depth exploration of space; physically, mentally, and emotionally.  By using functional alignment and imagery, students will increase their ability to move efficiently and expand their awareness of the body as it relates to both internal and external space.  Students will explore how the use of breath, expansion, and contraction can re/generate elements of time and energy in their movement.  This class will encourage students to expand their physical and mental relationship with space while working with movement initiation, level changes, gravity, rhythms, and spirals.  The class will begin and end with full-bodied movement, progressing through an invigorating warm-up, floor-work, exploration, and movement phrases.  Participants are encouraged to draw from their experience to discover how to be safe in relation to their body while creating movement, and how to heighten their sense of presence in order to engage emotional space, create a sense of community, and enjoy self-discovery.
