Dear Friend,

This March is all about deepening our connection to the community. This involves a few different formats, including collaboration with the San Diego Museum of Art, interaction with our Company in Open Rehearsal and Conversation with Artistic Director Christopher K. Morgan, and dialogue with our community through two town hall events. We want to make our programs deeply relevant and exciting while maintaining our core values of inclusion, passion, and belonging. Your participation and engagement is so important to us, and I hope to see you this month!

With Gratitude,

Molly Puryear, Executive Director

(re)CONNECT: a rotating class series

Reconnect with your practice and artists in our San Diego dance community through a rotating monthly series of drop-in technique classes featuring current and former MD company members, choreographers, and faculty. With a drop-in schedule every Wednesday night, this series fosters meaningful ways to get to know an artist deeply over the course of a month, while providing a wide array of artists for intermediate to advanced students to study with.

This month, join former company dancer & faculty member Rachel Torres, for Intermediate/Advanced Modern.

Rachel's class will begin with a structured full body center warm-up before transitioning into more expansive movement and phrase work across the floor where dancers are encouraged to take up space and find the full expansiveness of their bodies. Class will end with musicality based choreography where there is room to be both precise and to make your own artistic choices in a friendly, non-judgmental environment. Rachel's goal is to allow for a space that fosters creativity, love and community, and allows each dancer to get what they need each week.

Dance Belongs To Everyone

This past weekend, Malashock Dance, in collaboration with the Wheelchair Dancers Organization, hosted the very first Building Bridges Through Movement Workshop. The inclusive dance workshop, led by Michele Jones and Celina Speck, provided a nurturing environment where students cultivated appreciation and understanding for diverse bodies in motion, while unifying through the joy of dance!

At Malashock Dance, we strive to expand the horizons of dance by fostering brave spaces where individuals of all ages, races, and abilities can unite through movement.

If you missed our workshop this weekend, be sure to follow Malashock Dance to stay up to date on our next Building Bridges workshop.

If you would like to support our inclusive workshops through a donation, please follow the link.

Your Impact at a Glance

Over the past 6 months, we have made meaningful connections with thousands of people through our Company Performances, Outreach / In-School Programs, and Dance School. Individuals in our community are thriving because they have a place where they belong.

Thank you to the 160 supporters who contributed $141,406; and to the 1076 individuals who joined us for performances, programs in schools and communities, and at our school in
Liberty Station; and to the 37 artists who illuminated the power of dance and were compensated for their time teaching, performing, and rehearsing.
