Dear Friends,

Many of you will remember how enthusiastic I was about co-creating THE BRIDGE last spring with my dear friend and collaborator, Tristian Griffin, from Kansas City. Now, it is time to turn the tables. Next week, I head to Kansas City to re-stage the work on a cast of his dancers and have it presented at the Lawrence Arts Center.

These days, as an artist, it is a great pleasure having the chance to revisit, revive, and rework a major project. It's almost a luxury! So I am excited to put our heads together again and see where we can take THE BRIDGE this time around. I'll make sure we get a good video of the show, so I can share it with you - and you can see for yourselves how we did. Wish me luck

Gratefully Yours,

John Malashock, Artistic Director

Dear Friend,

Malashock Dance's Evolution Campaign is thriving! Throughout 2022 we will keep you updated with the progress of our fundraising campaign and the exciting activities we have planned. As we take a thoughtful and dynamic approach to identify new artistic leadership, we are planning to promote interaction and involvement with our candidates and guest choreographers. We are interested in your thoughts, reactions, ideas, and dreams for the future of dance in San Diego. Our promise to you is that Malashock Dance will continue to live its mission. We will find an innovative new artistic leader who will build on the solid foundation of our organization, continue to provide high caliber productions, and promote accessibility and equity in the dance ecosystem of San Diego. If that sounds like something you want to support, please consider making a pledge or donation to the campaign.

With Gratitude,

Molly Glynn Puryear, Executive Director / 619.260.1622 ext. 2

We know that you want to see quality dance that represents all of us for years to come, and now is the time to ensure that it is possible. Your donation or pledge will support fresh, innovative choreographic voices. Your participation will lead Malashock Dance into the future. Thank you to our generous donors who have already committed to helping us reach our goal to fund a five-year transition to new Artistic Leadership!

Produced by La Jolla Playhouse: Without Walls Festival

Just a Phase is a program of ten short dance pieces, each representing various phases and experiences in everyone’s lives (childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, independence, relationships, community). These small works form a loose narrative, taking the audience on a trip through these life stages. The show features eight dancers from Malashock Dance to tell a story that everyone will relate to. The incredibly compelling music ranges from pop to classical to contemporary.
