Dear Friends,

It's showtime again! JUST A PHASE will be presented by the La Jolla Playhouse's WOW Festival (April 23 & 24) and HORIZONS will play May 26-26, outdoors at Liberty Station. I'll be going deep into rehearsal-land starting next week and I'm looking forward to it.

Among the special guest artists who will join us for HORIZONS, we have Tristian Griffin coming to choreograph a brand new work on the Company. He is a phenomenal talent and is our first official Guest Artist to be considered as part of the Malashock Evolution plan, toward seeking future artistic direction for Malashock Dance. Tristian is starting to get a lot of national attention for his work, so I am delighted to welcome him back to San Diego.

You will not only get to see Tristian's new choreography in May, but you have the chance to interact with him directly while he is here in April. He will be teaching a free masterclass for the community in our studio on April 13th. I urge you to see his work or consider attending his class.

I sincerely hope to see you at one of our upcoming shows!

Gratefully Yours,

John Malashock, Artistic Director

Dear Friend,

Creating access to dance is the heart of our mission. The generosity we receive from our community allows us to provide meaningful programs that are accessible in a variety of ways. Sometimes "access" looks like our school's culture of inclusion, acceptance and support for students of varying abilities, genders, and body types. Sometimes it looks like our in-school programs, which bring dance classes and performances into communities where performing arts is lacking. And sometimes it looks like offering free classes and programs that unite our community around our common love of the arts. We know that you will enjoy the upcoming free classes and performances as well as HORIZONS - our incredible national collaboration of dance we are presenting May 26-29. Tickets are on sale now!

With Gratitude,

Molly Glynn Puryear, Executive Director / 619.260.1622 ext. 2

Just a Phase is a program of ten short dance pieces, each representing various phases and experiences in everyone’s lives (childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, independence, relationships, community). These small works form a loose narrative, taking the audience on a trip through these life stages. The show features eight dancers from Malashock Dance to tell a story that everyone will relate to. The incredibly compelling music ranges from pop to classical to contemporary.

Modern Jazz Blues

The newest addition to our adult class schedule hits the studio on April 30, 2022 with a chance for you to try it for FREE!

Join us for a taster class of Maria Benjamin's new class and experience this lyrical Jazz class that’s a fusion of Horton, Graham, Limon, Afro, Gospel, Blues, and Ballet.
It focuses on and builds musicality, technique, strength and expression. The choreography will vary every one or two weeks, but will always bemusic driven and soulful. This class requires some prior dance training, but frequent attendance will help the dancer become stronger and improve their technique. The most important thing in this class is for students to use the space to move, express themselves through the choreography, and feel their spirits soar.
